Okay, it’s a new year and all that cliche bullshit. My goal this year, starting a little late for a new years resolution but hey, better late then never, is to write something on this website every day for the rest of the year. The only rules I’m giving myself are:
1) have to post SOEMTHING.
2) at least one sentence/line in length
I don’t want to overwhelm my anxious self by setting too many rules because I know it will prevent me from obtaining my goal. I tend to strive for perfection when it comes to my writing, and that often hurts my motivation to write. “If I don’t do it perfectly then why do it at all?” Which, I know is crap, just as well as anyone, but knowing it doesn’t help me from feeling that way. So, the fewer rules I give, the easier I will feel about completing this goal!
So, starting today, with this post, my journey of writing daily on this site begins. At the end of the year I should have a total of 355 posts. This will include anything and everything I could choose to write: short stories, poems, blog posts, if i post my short films that I’ll be making in class, I’ll be counting those as they will have synopses under them, etc.
I read something recently that, paraphrased, basically said, writing garbage is better than writing nothing at all. It really resonated with me as something I need to work on. Like I said earlier, my brain kind of works the opposite way. But the more I learn in school and in life, the more I recognize the beauty of editing, and re-writing, and just… getting shit on “paper” so you don’t forget it. All of these things work hand in hand, and while I’m no stranger to the editing process, I tend to, as most writers do (at least at first), want to believe it should come out perfect on the first try.
My friend bought my a cool gift of a writing prompt game that I hope to use some times during this adventure. Some of the work I post this year will be rough, but hopefully I can use it to build on.
2018. Here we go!
